I once had a college professor who gave me some advice about planning. He said most businesses fail, not because of a failed plan, but it's because they failed to plan. I have been on this road for a long time. For the past 16 years, my life's work has been directed towards making a better life for others who were less fortunate than I. Within the past four years, I have been planning to improve the lives of those families in Precinct 2, through various programs through our schools. I am keenly aware of the myriad of complications and problems many of our citizens face. So, let me give you some insight into what my plans are to address some of those problems from the office of Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2.
*Working parents who are required to interface with the court, will be given the option to come to a night court session.
*I will continue the Teen Court Program sponsored by the YMCA, to return it to a an elite status it once enjoyed.
*I will institute a "Peer Mediation" program in Pct. 2 to teach students how to handle conflict through negotiation.
*Students who show early signs of bad behavior will be urged to join a mentoring program.
*Parents who show few parental skills, and who fail to control their juvenile child in school will be forced to attend parental classes.
*Senior citizens, who have time and interest, will be invited to become a mentor to 1-2 students in Elementary and Middle Schools.
*All citizens will be invited to join the JP2 Community Volunteer Corps, to be created to serve the needs of the entire Precinct.
*JP2 Court will work closely with local police departments to help identify potential criminal activity as a result of truancy violations.
*JP2 Court will work with all homeowners associations/Realtors to help reduce, and ultimately eliminate the need to foreclose.
*Through the JP2 Community Volunteer Corps, we will annually recognize volunteers who made a difference in the lives of others.
*JP2 Court will make monthly visits to all Middle and High Schools to educate students on the law and how they are effected.
*The JP2 Court will hold quarterly "town hall" meetings to hear the concerns of students, administrators and parents.
*JP2 Court will establish a working relationship with all area churches to boost the brain-thrust for solving our common problems.
*JP2 Court will c0-sponsor an annual "Teen Summit" to provide educational, social and legal services through local nonprofits.
I do not profess to have all the answers to all the issues in our Precinct. I can tell you that I will be open to your ideas and suggestions, as it relates to improving the lives of citizens within our Precinct. You can count on me, to be there for you!
